San Francisco´s church

iglesia
During the War of Independence, several convents in **Villafranca del Bierzo** were looted by the English and the French. In the case of the **Convent of San Francisco**, founded in the 13th century at the behest of Dona Urraca, only the church remains, offering stunning views of the town.

The church, in Romanesque style with Gothic and Baroque details due to various expansions, is notable for its façade and robust walls. Inside, there is a main altarpiece in Churrigueresque style and a painting of the Eucharistic Christ from the school of Juan de Flandes.

The choir, designed in Plateresque style and reflecting Franciscan austerity, as well as several tombs of important knights and ladies from Villafranca, are also worth mentioning.
