Santa María Magdalena de Pereje´s church

pereje
The Church of Santa María Madalena is located in Pereje, a small town in the municipality of Trabadelo, in the region of Bierzo. Located on the section of the French Camino de Santiago, this church is a point of interest for pilgrims and visitors who walk this thousand-year-old route.

The church dates back to medieval times, although it has undergone several reforms over the centuries. The building combines elements of different architectural styles, its simplicity and elegance being particularly notable. Its modest Romanesque style, typical of rural churches in the area, stands out, with a rectangular nave and a square bell tower.

The main facade is very sober, but retains a unique beauty thanks to its traditional materials, mainly local stone. Inside, there are interesting religious images, including that of the Virgin Mary Magdalene, the patroness of the church, venerated by the local faithful. You can also find remnants of decorations from other styles, such as the Baroque.
